Gurmit & Heena Happy Valley : A Sikh wedding and a Sindhi wedding for this gorgeous couple!
“Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate” – Alan D. Wolfel
How They Met
Their paths crossed at a common friend’s party. Gurmit was like a knight in shining armour who basically swept Heena off her feet with his charming personality. Their first date was full of fun, laughter and delicious food. What really brought them closer was their shared passion for food and travelling.
The Proposal
What started out as a normal day, ended up being one of the most memorable days for the couple. Heena went out for lunch with her family, indulged in some shopping then headed home. Little did she know, Gurmit was waiting for her with their passports and plane tickets in hand, ready to whisk Heena away to Singapore! Gurmit popped the question at Gardens by the Bay and of course, Heena said yes!
Wedding Planning
From the beginning, Gurmit and Heena wanted a traditional wedding. They had come across many stories where a wedding combined two different religions but the task was to smoothly execute both ceremonies in a day. They wanted to make sure they got the best of both religions included in the events. Since both of them work and live in Hong Kong, it posed as the perfect destination for all their wedding ceremonies.
The Wedding Ceremonies
Mehendi: The theme of the Mehendi ceremony was ‘Colours of Rajasthan’ and a place called Tandoori Nights was picked as the venue to host the said function. The decor was done by a very close friend and Heena’s brother, making it easy to add personal touches. What’s more, most of the decorations were brought from Jaipur to compliment the theme. Needless to say, everyone did complete justice to the theme and came decked up in bright and vibrant colours. Heena wore a traditional bandhej and leheriya outfit with meenakari earrings and the traditional Rajasthani borla maang tikka while Gurmit went with a blue kurta and a floral Nehru jacket.
Wedding: The wedding took place in two different ways – a Sikh wedding and a Sindhi wedding. For the Sikh wedding, the Gurdwara was decorated personally by the groom’s side of the family. Following the Sikh wedding, the couple also got married at the Hindu Temple where the bride’s parents had gotten married. The temple was decorated by a Chinese wedding company called T&M Decoration. Heena wore a deep red bridal lehenga with a contrast peach chunni paired with kundan jewellery and a pearl nath. Gurmit wore a cream and gold sherwani and accessorised the look with a deep red shawl that complemented the bride’s ensemble.
Reception: The Harbour Grand Kowloon Hotel in Hung Hom was picked for the Reception ceremony. The stunning location provided for an amazing view which gave us an amazing view for our photoshoot, entrance as well as for all the guests visiting. The dress code for the ceremony was finalised as Indian formals or Western formals. The decor was rustic floral and all the decorations were done by T&M Decoration. The backdrop was a rustic wooden arch with beautiful flowers and trees on either sides. The centre pieces for the tables were flowers and candles. Heena wore a gold and green indo-western outfit paired with a beautiful gold and polki jewellery set and maang tikka. Gurmit looked dapper in an emerald green suit and added a dash of bling with a glittery green tie.
