Matthew & Meenakshi Delhi : A beautiful cross cultural wedding that has tugged our heart strings!

Matthew & Meenakshi Delhi : A beautiful cross cultural wedding that has tugged our heart strings!

Meenakshi and Matthew tied the knot in one of the most unique ceremonies that we have come across. They ditched the usual and made sure everything about their wedding represented them. Every nitty gritty of the wedding reflected their thoughts.

Their Story..

Meenakshi and Matthew met via a popular dating app. In Meenakshi’s words, they dated, got swooned by each other, met each other’s families and decided to have a small wedding. She said, “we thought we would have a ‘no-fuss’ simple marriage and a small party in India and England when the time permits. We thought this would be it!  In our heads it would be too much of a bother to fly either side of the families to the other’s homeland. But we were naive! The moment we got engaged in September, both families got excited and took over- my in-laws were looking forward to fly down to India for a traditional Indian wedding and my family was itching to welcome them!”

The Wedding Saga..

Meenakshi and Matthew’s wedding was a big fat function with a twist of their own. Both of them have a background in environment and are working in the sector. This was the time to practice and demonstrate what they had been preaching about being conscious of environmental impacts. However, they didn’t want to compromise on the fun and traditions. So they had to strike a balance.

As wedding favours guests received bamboo straws and were asked to bring it to the wedding. Plastic bottles were replaces glass bottles, plastic straws with paper straws. Meenakshi and Matthew enjoy cooking and as mehendi favours they gave English mustard made by Matthew and pav bhaji masala by Meenakshi. Who comes up with such unique ideas?!

The mehendi was followed by a simple wedding ceremony that took place the bride’s home. Meenakshi chose to wear a red banarasi saree  and her maternal grandmother’s heirloom hoops. Matthew led his baraat on a cycle rickshaw and had the utmost fun!

Everything about their wedding was unique and defined the couple well!
