Old-age Home Inmates Ready to Marry after 20 Years in Love

Being able to wait is a sign of true love and patience. Anyone can say ‘I love you’, but not everyone can wait and prove that it’s true. 

If you truly believe in love, you can wait for as long as it takes to be with the person whom you love wholeheartedly! Love is not about rushing into things, it is about waiting for that one perfect moment when you know its right, and that moment is the most beautiful one…

Such is the heartwarming story of Lakshmi Ammal and Kochaniyan from Thaikkattussery, Thrissur. Laksmi, unfortunately, lost her husband 21 years ago. Kochiyan used to work as an assistant caterer for her husband and her husband requested Kochiyan to take care of his wife when he was no more. Kochiyan being the selfless person he is stuck to that promise to date. 

Kochiyan’s job was arduous and seeing his age and taking his health into consideration, an NGO decided to make arrangements for him in an old-age home. Two months later, he was shifted to an old-age home Ramavarmapuram, the same old-age home where Lakshmi was staying for 11 months. 

The two were in love with each other. Yes, you read that right. Love does strike in the most unexpected ways and at times when we least expect it to find us. Their 20-year-old love story hadn’t ended, in fact the two had finally realised how much they meant to each other. 

The old-age home inmates become aware of the couple’s love story and decided that its best if something could be done for them in terms of marriage. After they spoke to V.G. Jayakumar, the superintendent of the old-age home, he felt he should arrange for their marriage. After consulting the UDF councillor, John Daniel, and getting his nod, they came to the conclusion that such alliances should be encouraged. 

Lakshmi is 65 years of age, while Kochiyan is 66 years old. Their marriage is due for 30th December and the inmates are awaiting to celebrate this day and are extremely happy for the two lovebirds. I wish them all the luck and happiness and congratulations to them for their future life.
